I'm pretty worried about the effects of Spectre/Meltdown. Apparently Spectre, at least, affects basically all modern/high-performance CPUs, and can't be patched without large performance drops. It probably wouldn't have been an awful vulnerability to have around probably a few decades ago, but now basically everything executes some untrusted code (JS in browsers, cloud providers running people's workloads, etc.) Which probably means a significant security/speed tradeoff, and there's not really any right way for that to go... What do you guys think about using the latest version of minecraft?

I'm using either 1.7.10 or 1.12.2.

Mods are, in my experience, vastly better than hacky contraptions made of a thousand armor stands and scoreboard tables and whatever else they're using these days.

1.7.10: Mods. +1.9: dunno, guess the elytra is pretty fun tho.

I make custom modpacks containing only mods I like lots.

I like the sounds of these new modpacks with tweaked recipes that integrate all the different mods together.

That's why I made my own. I wanted to be able to find stuff.

There's Age of Engineering, which is a tiered-progression 1.10.2 pack.

What would be cool is a modpack with per-player specialization and incentives to trade, so "you make a power plant and I'll ship you coal" is actually practical, instead of "we both have magic powerboxes".

With a diamond drill and a mining laser, mining can get pretty damn fast.

It's a pretty nice modpack.

But if you can find a lava lake near the bedrock, you can get iron, gold, red stone, lapis, and diamond almost immediately

I use TBU Oxide generally, because it comes directly from thorium.
